Monaco may struggle to make an impact
Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes were dented on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham, but they had been near-flawless before that and should bounce back against Monaco.
The Gunners have been outstanding at home this term, winning eight and drawing two of 10 games at the Emirates and keeping five clean sheets.
Notably, their two Champions League home matches – against PSG and Shakhtar Donetsk – have been won to nil and Mikel Arteta will set up his side to repeat the trick on Wednesday.
Monaco have impressed in the Champions League’s new-look league phase, matching Arsenal’s tally of 10 points after five games, but they were beaten by Benfica last time out and they may struggle to lay a glove on their hosts in north London.
Arsenal also won all three of their Champions League group stage home games to nil last term and their defensive strength was shown again when limiting a resurgent Manchester United to just five shots. That success came without key defender Gabriel too.
The Gunners’ expected goals against figure of 4.5 was the sixth-lowest of any side heading into Matchday 6 and Monaco look set to become the latest side to falter at the hands of Arteta’s resilient side.
Arsenal vs Monaco tip 1: Arsenal to win to nil @ 1/1 with bet365
Saliba set to feature prominently
Arsenal’s strength from set-pieces has been one of the stories of the season, with specialist coach Nicolas Jover earning plenty of plaudits – and ribbing from rivals fans for his pitchside antics – with the Gunners scoring eight Premier League goals plus two in Europe from dead-ball situations.
Gabriel is the usual beacon for the Gunners and he has four goals, but, with the Brazilian suffering with a knee injury, his usual centre-back partner, William Saliba, should pick up the aerial slack against Monaco, as he has in the past two matches.
The France defender scored from corners against Manchester United and Fulham, making the odds about him being involved in the opposition box far too good to ignore.
Saliba is a decent 6/4 to manage a shot but it could pay to back him to get one on target at huge odds of 9/2 given his scoring streak.
Arsenal vs Monaco tip 2: William Saliba over 0.5 shots on target @ 9/2 with bet365
Star boy Saka can lead Gunners to victory
Bukayo Saka has been directly involved in three of Arsenal’s eight Champions League goals this term, as well as seven in his past five matches in all competitions, making the Arsenal star to score or assist a great starting point for our bet builder.
His delivery from set-pieces will be key, making him a big assist threat, while he is also in with a shout of scoring himself, which could help his side land an eighth home win in nine outings at the Emirates, our second leg.
Round out the bet builder with a Monaco booking, given that they are set to be under the cosh for large periods of Wednesday’s clash.
Thilo Kehrer rates as a prime candidate for a card. The German has been booked twice in the Champions League and may struggle to cope with the movement of his national team colleague Kai Havertz and the late runs into the box of Martin Odegaard.
The bet builder is priced at 6/1, and you can use the bet365 bonus code TMG50 to make the wager.
