Horse racing tips: Musselburgh – Monday December 9
Today’s horse racing picks are from Musselburgh

There are four race meetings across England and Scotland on Monday, a pair of jump cards preceding two all-weather Flat fixtures.

Lingfield (12.30-3.30pm) and Musselburgh (12.45-3.15) serve up the jumping before they race on the Tapeta at Newcastle (3.22-7.30) and Wolverhampton (4.15-8.15).

Our three tips come from Musselburgh and include a Lucinda Russell-trained five-year-old bidding for a first victory over hurdles.

JET TO VEGAS has placed second in both outings under Rules – in a bumper and a maiden hurdle, both over 2m 1f on soft ground at Carlisle – and can go one better in this 2m 4f maiden hurdle.

Craig Nichol, the five-year-old’s rider in both of those races, continues in the saddle here and has an 11 per cent success rate when riding for trainer Lucinda Russell, the same figure as her own success rate at this circuit, where she has sent out 870 runners.

The latter of his Carlisle runs earned Jet to Vegas a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 114 that sets a clear form standard in this field. He is open to further progress given the benefit of that first hurdling experience and the step up to a more suitable intermediate distance on a similar surface.

He is a brother to a 2m 4f chase winner out of an unraced half-sister to River Maigue, himself a useful winner at point-to-point, bumper, hurdle and chase level.

Selection: Jet To Vegas @ 8/15 with BetMGM

The Fergal O’Brien-trained NO NO FIZZ won a mares’ handicap hurdle at Lingfield (2m, good) last time out and she can follow up here with Tom Broughton claiming 5lb in the saddle.

O’Brien has enjoyed a strike-rate of 14 per cent with his 25 runners over the past fortnight and 26 per cent with the 26 runners he has sent out at Musselburgh.

The daughter of Getaway found the winning groove on her seventh career start over today’s trip at Lingfield, and, given her subsequent 6lb rise, it is encouraging that Broughton is 17-75 (23% +£3.28) when riding for the O’Brien yard, given his claim largely cancels out the hike in weight.

The easier ground is less of a concern, too, when considering her sire has a 27% strike-rate with his progeny on good to soft ground, and her dam won a bumper at Navan on soft-to-heavy going.

Selection: No No Fizz @ 6/4 with BetMGM

Horse racing tips: Musselburgh 14.15

STRINGTOYOURBOW has a decent chance in the Class 4 handicap chase over an extended 2m 4f.

Trainer Christian Williams had a welcome winner over fences in Cave Article at Sedgefield on Friday and the selection should be capable of kicking on after registering a first chasing victory over three miles at Southwell last month.

Stringtoyourbow won easing down after a good round of jumping and, any concerns regarding the drop back to an intermediate trip are negated by the easier surface on this occasion.

He has won over further on good to soft over hurdles in the past, while his 6lb higher rating of 107 is exploitable, given that hurdles success came in a higher grade.

Selection: Stringtoyourbow @ 15/8 with BetMGM
