Tense clash could end all square
Two sides desperate for a victory meet at the London Stadium when West Ham host Wolves.
With the fate of managers Julen Lopetegui and Gary O’Neil believed to be hanging in the balance, the outcome of Monday’s clash could be crucial to one or both men’s futures.
Lopetegui has been criticised by Hammers fans following back-to-back defeats by Arsenal and Leicester City after an encouraging win at Newcastle United.
The hosts have picked up just four victories from their first 14 games and are 14th in the table, while O’Neil’s side are five places worse off, having won just twice all season.
Wolves are 19th after also suffering two straight defeats, 4-2 at home to Bournemouth 4-2 and 4-0 at Everton, poor results which came on the back of a much-improved four-game unbeaten in which they drew with Brighton and Crystal Palace and beat Southampton and Fulham.
The inconsistency of both sides means that, even though a draw would be an unsatisfactory outcome for either manager, it may well be that both have to settle for a point.
West Ham vs Wolves tip 1: Draw @ 14/5 with Paddy Power
Summerville can inspire hosts
Crysencio Summerville has shone at times for the Irons this season with his pace and trickery causing opponents plenty of trouble.
The winger came on at half-time in the defeat at Leicester last time out and had an impact on the game, providing the assist for Niclas Fullkrug’s late consolation goal.
Summerville also had two shots in the second half of that game and if he continues to show those positive signs in the final third against Wolves a second league goal of the season may come his way.
West Ham vs Wolves tip 2: Crysencio Summerville any-time goalscorer @ 12/5 with Paddy Power
Bowen worth a shot in bet builder
Jarrod Bowen will be disappointed that he has only scored three league goals for West Ham this season but he remains a danger going forward for the hosts.
The England forward has had 10 shots in his last three outings for the Hammers, five of them on target, and he can follow up the three he had on target against Leicester by testing the Wolves keeper at least twice on Monday.
The second leg of our 9/1 bet builder is for both teams to score, which seems probable considering Wolves only recorded their second blank of the season in the heavy 4-0 defeat at Everton, while West Ham have also found the back of the net in all but three of their league games this season.
Finally, Matheus Cunha to commit two or more fouls seems plausible as the Brazilian has been guilty of giving away 19 fouls in the league this season, with only Joao Gomes – who has committed 29 – giving away more free-kicks in the Wolves squad.
Cunha comes into Monday’s clash after being penalised for two fouls against both Fulham and Bournemouth recently, while he gave away three free-kicks in the defeat at Everton in midweek.
West Ham vs Wolves tip 3: Jarrod Bowen to have two or more shots on target, both teams to score and Matheus Cunha to commit two or more fouls @ 9/1 with Paddy Power
