Blues to prosper on their travels

The west Londoners extended their unbeaten record to seven games on Wednesday as they recorded a stonking 5-1 win at Southampton.

Coach Enzo Maresca had the luxury of being able to make seven changes, but his side still got the job done in style on the South Coast.

Spurs are now without a victory in three after their 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth and manager Ange Postecoglou is under increasing pressure, with the away fans reacting angrily to another poor result.

It was only last month that Tottenham outclassed Manchester City to win 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium, but with the Lilywhites now 10th in the table their supporters are starting to voice their concerns vehemently.

Spurs will be without first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and centre backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven on Sunday, while backup Ben Davies went off injured against the Cherries and is doubtful.

The north Londoners are down to the bare bones at the back, and Chelsea, who went into the weekend second in the league table have far too much quality not to punish Spurs and rack up the goals.

Blues going under the radar

Chelsea boss Maresca has tried to play down his title aspirations by claiming his team are aiming for a top-four spot, but they are second in the table on merit.

The Blues have won seven of their past 10 games in all competitions and have scored at least two goals in four consecutive matches.

Chelsea have only lost once away from home all season in the league, falling to a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield in October. Apart from that, they have been impressive. They scored six against Wolves, three against West Ham United and then added a further five at St Mary’s in midweek.

With Spurs light at the back, the Blues should be able to make a fast start – and if the crowd turns on Postecoglou and his team, this could be an easy afternoon at the office for the visitors.

Forward pair to set the standard

Only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland have scored more goals in the league this season than Cole Palmer, who has nine in 14 appearances. Striker Nicolas Jackson is not far behind him with eight in 13, and he was given a well-earned rest against the Saints.

Palmer has also made six assists this term and his partnership with Jackson has been a joy to watch, except for opponents, throughout the campaign.

The pair should be able to create numerous chances for each other and their teammates.

Chelsea will also leave their mark on Sunday, especially since the contest is a derby. The Blues have collected 47 yellow cards this season, the most of any team in the Premier League.

Left back Marc Cucurella will do well to avoid trouble, and he has already racked up a joint league-high six yellow cards with teammate Wesley Fofana.

The Spain international is a passionate and feisty player and will have to mark the likes of James Maddison, Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kuluveski, Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson on Sunday. All those Spurs attackers have power and pace, so it would be no surprise to see Cucurella concede a few cheap free kicks.

Tottenham vs Chelsea tip 3: Bet builder – Nicolas Jackson to score or assist, Cole Palmer to score or assist, Chelsea to have the most cards and Marc Cucurella to be shown a yellow @ 14/1 with William Hill
