Forest look likely to fall

The Red Devils came up well short in midweek at Arsenal in the toughest test yet of Ruben Amorim’s short reign as Old Trafford boss.

United lost 2-0, something of a confirmation that the team under their new Portuguese head coach are not surprisingly still very much a work in progress after less than a month of his tenure.

But United, back on home turf, may well have too much for Forest. The Tricky Trees had a flourishing start to the season, but have now lost three of their past four games as the realities of the fixture list start to take their toll.

Beaten 3-0 at Manchester City in midweek, they now visit the Theatre of Dreams to face the Red Devils, who have won 11 of the past 12 meetings between these teams.

While Amorim’s rebuilding project is clearly in its infancy, he has enough talent at his disposal to get the better of Forest, who are managed by his compatriot Nuno Espírito Santo. However, the visitors have scored in 12 of their 15 matches in all competitions this term, and can do so again.

Rashford to shine

Frontman Marcus Rashford was rested for United’s 2-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, but is likely to return to the starting line-up at Old Trafford – and can get on the scoresheet.

The 27-year-old has three goals in his past two starts and could take advantage of a Forest defence that has looked leaky recently, conceding nine goals in their previous four outings.

Fernandes could fall foul of referee

Five of the Tricky Trees’ past six games have gone over 2.5 goals and a repeat looks likely against a United team that have found their shooting boots since Erik ten Hag’s departure as boss in late October.

Forest and New Zealand international frontman Chris Wood has had 14 shots on target this term, averaging comfortably over one per 90 minutes, and is fancied to have another.

Perhaps less happily, Portugal international Bruno Fernandes’ role in Amorim’s system gives the midfielder less freedom to roam – and forces him to defend more.

He was booked nine times in the league last term and, while he has only been shown one card in the top flight this season, he could be cautioned once more at Old Trafford.
